"The Golden Triangle", a term that was originally designated to represent the Sop Ruak River and the Mekong River. It is also the area where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. However, the word ‘gold’ in ‘Golden Triangle’ may have been made to describe the payment of gold for opium that is very popular and common within this highly anticipated area by the people from the three different countries.

Ironically, The Golden Triangle is not only well-known for linking three nations together from a geographical standpoint, but the area is also known as one of the world's top locations for the manufacture of synthetic drugs, particularly methamphetamine. Opium production in Myanmar is the world's second-largest source of opium after Afghanistan, producing some 25% of the world's opium, forming part of the Golden Triangle.
