Although Jongsong Peak is ranked 57th in the world with a height of 7,462 meters (24,482 ft), the Jongsong peak's summit is prominently acknowledged as the tripoint of three countries comprising of Nepal, India and China. The region habitats vegetation of Pine and Hemlock forests, White Fir, Juniper, Birch and Rhododendron, scrub and alpine plant are common at the higher altitude. The large area is also home to the Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Marten, Himalayan Mouse Hare (Pika), and over 118 species of bird including the Impeyan Pheasant, Snow Cock, Blood Pheasant, and Red-billed Cough.

From its first ascent in 1930 by members of German expedition led by Gunther Dyhrenfurth until the first ascent of Kamet on 21 June 1931, Jongsong was the highest climbed peak in the world at that point of time. The first ascent team of Jongsong peak had included several members who were also members of the International mountaineering organisation, Himalayan Club. With such a historical memory achieved by people at that time, today, visitors can purchase a trail package such as the “Jongsang Peak climbing expedition 55-day challenging adventure trip” which would cost each person a whooping USD $11,000 to $12,000.
